Last few homes in new Annecy scheme could be snapped up by Olympic hopefuls

Le Domaine Saint Laurent, Annecy le Vieux
With all but 12 of the 99 new apartments built in a peaceful location overlooking Lake Annecy now sold, French developer MGM is expecting investors to snap-up the remaining properties quickly in the wake of the news that Annecy has been short listed as a contender to host the Winter Olympics in 2018.

“We predict a scramble to buy up properties in the Annecy area if it is announced that the town has beaten its rivals, Munich in Germany and PyeongChang in South Korea,” says Nathalie Turchet, MGM’s London-based UK sales manager. “Even though the final decision is two years away, there are signs than some investors want to get in early and buy property in Annecy now, before prices soar.”

The MGM apartments on offer are located on the outskirts of Annecy at Annecy-le-Vieux, where work recently has been completed on its development Le Domaine du St Laurent.

Taking its name from the nearby local church of St Lawrence, the scheme comprises 11 two- and three-storey buildings with an external design inspired by the area’s traditional Savoyard farm buildings.

The long buildings feature traditional roof tiling, described by Nathalie as “a wink at the old Annecy architecture,” with dormer windows above rendered finishes in colours occurring naturally in the immediate landscape – green, yellow and beige.

Occupying three hectares (7.4 acres) of landscaped gardens edged by a woodland stream, the homes are set around a communal pool.

At Le Domaine du St Laurent MGM currently is offering properties ranging from two-bedroom apartments with a floor area of 73 sq m priced at €354,000 to three-bedroom duplexes of 135 sq m costing €685,000. All of them feature a large terrace or balcony and come with a private underground garage.

Additional details

A feature of the apartments at Le Domaine du St Laurent is the way in which no floor or wall space is occupied with heating appliances – thanks to under-floor gas heating throughout.

In place of traditional external window shutters, MGM has provided modern electric ones, operated with a remote control handset.

Bedrooms have built-in wardrobes. Interior finishes include oak doors and tiled floors, with oak floors in bedrooms. They are created from boards in a variety of widths selected to maximise the visual appearance of the patterns which occur naturally in the wood.
