Samoëns - Les Ecrins Etoilés![]() The village of Samoens is one of the most unspoilt in the region. From the village there is very easy access to one of the largest skiing areas in France: "Le Grand Massif" and its 265 km of slopes (linked villages: Samoens, Sixt Fer a Cheval, Morillon, Les Carroz and Flaine). This skiing area offers quality skiing in comfort thanks to its modern equipment: it belongs to the largest ski lift company in France (La Compagnie des Alpes which also owns Meribel, Verbier, La Plagne, Serre Chevalier, Les Menuires, etc); this company has invested 50 millions € in the last 10 years on the infrastructure of Le Grand Massif including new lifts, new snow canons and new or improved slopes. The snow is almost guaranteed as most of the skiing area is between 1600 and 2500 metres Easy access to the slopes: the gondola lift is 200 metres from the village; it takes you to 1600m in 8 minutes, another chairlift will take you to 2100 m in 10 minutes. Samoens is also very close to other famous skiing areas: “Les Portes du Soleil” and its 600 km of slopes are only 20 minutes away by car (Les Gets or Morzine); Chamonix and Megeve are 1 hour away, Les Contamines and L’Espace Diamant are 1h10 away (Praz sur Arly for L’Espace Diamant). Samoens enjoys a great climate all year round thanks to the very low altitude of the village: only 700 metres high, in a large sunny valley. In April you can spend the day on the slopes enjoying snowy landscapes, and then finish the day in the village, enjoying the warm weather and watching flowers blossom. It is so warm in the summer that MGM will build an indoor / outdoor swimming pool for its new 4 star residence “La Reine des Pres”. Samoens has plenty of activities in the summer with a lake and a river less than 10 minutes walk from the centre of the village, fabulous hiking tracks all the way to Chamonix through natural reserves, golf courses in Les Gets (20 min), Megeve (1 hour) Chamonix (1 hour), the lakes of Annecy and Geneva are only 1 hour away, etc. It is a beautiful village: it is in fact the only ski resort in France listed in the Caisse des Monuments Historiques. There are a lot of old farms, chalets, chapels, fountains, etc offering a picture perfect charm. It has a community living there all year round, offering a relaxed village atmosphere and shops open all year round. A large part of the fields are still farmed, which also keeps the authentic atmosphere of the village. It is also less than 1 hour drive from Geneva and its airport and TGV train station. |
